So it’s pretty much official. I’m in love with Spain. 😍📷
If you’ve been following along on my instagram (and if you haven’t you should start now) you know that I went to Spain for my birthday 🎉🍺. I wasn’t planning on doing any “work” while I was over there. I had never been to Spain before and honestly really never even thought about visiting it but when I saw round trip tickets for less than $400 out of Nashville I had to. When Robert and Alyssa contacted me about taking some wedding portraits of them (and their dog) while I was there I got even more excited. They are absolutely adorable and from their emails I knew it would be so much fun hanging out with them. It’s so funny no matter where in the world our clients definitely have a “type.” First of all they are fun loving, like to get out and adventure type of people. Second they are “creatives.” We’ve shot more weddings for musicians, artists, designers and creative entrepreneurs than I can count. Third they like to listen to live music and find amazing dive bars with awesome history.
The day before our shoot Robert and Alyssa took me out to my first real authentic Spanish tapas bar. Confession time: I’m a pretty picky eater. I eat the same 4 or 5 things on rotation and very rarely deviate from my “usual” orders. I took several years of Spanish in college but that was a long time ago and my vocabulary was never that great. So I let Robert and Alyssa order for me. If you’ve never been to a tapas place before here’s how it works. You order a bunch of small plates of meats, seafood, veggies and then everybody at the table shares while you drink a lot of wine. So basically the best idea ever. This was the first of many amazing meals that I had while I was in Spain. The first dish I tried was Octopus (something I would never in a million years think that I would have tried but I didn’t want to be rude) and guess what…? I freaking loved it. And the rest of the trip every chance I got I ordered it and made everyone I met try it. Robert and Alyssa also took me to an absinthe bar where Picasso, Dali and Hemingway hung out. The place was so dingy and dusty they actually took pride in the fact that they never clean the place. But 10 out of 10 would recommend 100%.
I often get asked by potential clients if I’ve shot at the venue they are planning on getting married at. I’ve shot at most (if not all) of the wedding venues in Nashville, TN. But I try really hard not to shoot at the same place too often. I love the sense of adventure that I get when I’m photographing a couple somewhere I’ve never been and that’s exactly what I got in Barcelona. Before our shoot I had scouted out several locations I knew I wanted to shoot at. Honestly it wouldn’t have made any difference if I hadn’t scouted anything out. I spent most of my five days there walking around Barcelona and never once went the same way twice and never found anything that wouldn’t have been a perfect location. Below are just a few of the many photographs that I captured while Robert, Alyssa and I adventured around Barcelona. I’m so thankful that I got to meet them and that they were able to show me around their amazing city while I documented their beautiful love for one another. 💖
